In the UK the Department of Education have announced that it will be introducing further testing on times tables for children under the age of 11.


The Secretary for Education, Nicky Morgan announced plans to introduce 'a crackdown on illiteracy and innumeracy.'

Apart from the added stress to children in schools who are under pressure to perform, this presents a difficulty for children that are dyslexic who struggle with remembering their times tables.

  1. Sounds like a step in the wrong direction, putting more stress on children and teachers, and tying teachers' hands. Rather than individualizing instruction, they're going to be forced to "teach to the test"
